Lynn Dreyer-Devens founded Melissa’s Voice Foundation, Inc. when her beautiful sister Melissa Ritter died following her life long battle with an eating disorder. Like most battling eating disorders, Melissa suffered in silence and in shame. She kept her disorder a secret from her husband, family and even her closest friends until it became a severe health crisis.
Lynn was visiting Melissa to support her as she awaited travel to a treatment program. On the morning of October 31, 2007 Lynn fondly admired her big sister and best friend Melissa through a window as she sat on her on her front porch with her beloved dog Emma. There she basked in the warm sunlight and wrote in her journal. They had lunch together and then Melissa sent Lynn off to get some Halloween candy for the children and run a few errands. Lynn asked Melissa to join her yet she declined saying she wanted to get some rest. Lynn ran the errands quickly and returned home to the unimaginable. Melissa had taken her life by suicide. In what seemed like forever; the world stood still, never to be the same again. Lynn found Melissa's Journal and saw that she had drawn a barren tree on one page which often indicates hopelessness and had written the words "Life is Worth Living." Melissa left behind words of encouragement for others to lift the veil of secrecy, be brave and ask for help.

“I continue to think of Lynn and her story and draw strength and courage from all of her efforts. I continue my daily fight towards health and recovery. Without Lynn and Melissa’s Voice Foundation, Inc. I do not think I would have found the resources, help or motivation to go on. I am grateful every day.” - Ashley Bitton
